Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Kids' Classes Malta
Checkmate Gym is now welcoming children aging 4-12 years to join our team.
We will have a class dedicated entirely to Jiu-Jitsu for our new young members. Starting Jiu-Jitsu ( BJJ ) at a young age will help them develop reflexes, flexibility and build their fitness level.
The Kids' Class will be held every Friday from 18:00 till 19:00. All students joining this class need to have their kimono or Gi. Please book the session in advance as places are limited.
Why Should I choose to enroll my child to Jiu-Jitsu Classes?
Jiu-jitsu is a martial art discipline that emphasizes in taking control over an opponent and forcing him or her into submission. During our classes students learn techniques from basics, such as grappling chokeholds, throws and takedowns.
Apart from teaching kids how to defend themselves Jiu-jitsu offers a number of other benefits to children.
1. Improve Focus and discipline.
In its self Jiu-Jitsu is a discipline that will teach the students how to be better both physically and mentally. It will teach them how wear and keep on a uniform even during training.
It is normal for children to have trouble at focusing and sitting still for long periods of time. Jiu-jitsu classes are a great way for children to learn these skills while practicing self-defense. Jiu-jitsu is fun but difficult to execute especially in the beginning. Young students often want to do well but realize that they need to pay attention and focus in order to achieve a good level. Setting goals and achieving them is another skill that children learn in jiu-jitsu classes. Such skills are later on applied in their everyday lives. When students full fill these tasks, they feel a sense of accomplishment. This will motivate them set and achieve similar goals in school and in their everyday life.

After several lessons, children are likely to realize that they need to maintain their bodies to do well in their jiu-jitsu classes. This will encourage them to try to eat right, stretch daily and get enough sleep so they can be successful in front of their instructors.
3. Building confidence.
Martial arts programs for kids gives students added confidence. However, some programs only require children to kick or punch a board or an object. This gives them a false sense of confidence that could backfire when they realize those moves do not always work against other individuals.
On the other hand Jiu-jitsu classes, frequently teach kids using the buddies that they train with. This will give them a better idea of what can happen in real life if they will ever need to use self defense. If your child ever comes across a threatening situation, they need to be confident that their techniques can actually protect them.
4. Dealing with Bullies
The confidence that kids build during Jiu-Jitsu classes can help them deal with bullies that they may encounter any time during their lives. Our martial arts classes will teach students how to stand properly, remain calm and composed when threatened. Kids will learn that communication is the first step towards solving an issue and avoid violence. However if the situation becomes physical they will have the skills to defend themselves and seek help. Your kids may be come able to instinctively respond to the situation in a way that keeps them safe.
